Dave founded Kapell Real Estate in 1981 after moving with his wife, Eileen Kapell, from New York City to raise their young family in Greenport. While building his business, he served in a number of public service positions in Village of Greenport government including Community Development Supervisor, Village Trustee, Planning Board Chairman and Mayor from 1994-2007. He is widely credited with leading Greenport’s successful transformation from a profoundly depressed seaport into the thriving destination it has become. Among many initiatives, he planned, funded and built Mitchell Park, which has become the center of community life in Greenport.
Dave holds a Master of Public Administration degree from Harvard Kennedy School of Government. He is an avid boater and fisherman with intimate knowledge of the local waters and coastlines.
Dave’s 40 years of experience in the local real estate market, combined with his expertise in local planning and land use regulation, offers customers a unique resource for meeting their real estate investment needs.
Eileen manages the administrative functions of the business while offering others a wisdom gained over a lifetime of work in early childhood education, community service in our schools, recreation, and arts and culture programs. In addition to her business duties, she and Dave raised three wonderful children in Greenport. Eileen loves to fish and is an avid gardener and tennis player.
Matt was born and raised in Greenport and returned after graduating from Union College in 2002 to join the family business. Specializing in residential and commercial sales, property management, and permit expediting on the North Fork, he takes pride in bringing a personal touch to his work, representing clients with the upmost professionalism and discretion.
As a North Fork native, he understands and appreciates the many unique benefits of living in a tight-knit community with unparalleled beauty and access to farms, vineyards, fishing, and boating. When not working, he spends the majority of his time on the water. He is a competitive sailor and a member of the Shelter Island Yacht Club.
Bernie Hoban joined Kapell Real Estate in 2018 after a successful career with New York Life Investments in NYC. She is a Greenport resident and is very active in her community. She is the past President of the Peconic Bay Home Owners Association and is the current President of North Fork Women For Women Fund. An avid sailor, Bernie enjoys sailing the waters of Peconic Bay and eastern Long Island.
Susan is a veteran of the local real estate market, including over twenty years with Kapell Real Estate. She was born and raised in Greenport before moving to raise her family on her husband’s family farm in East Marion. Her deep roots in the community, combined with her rich personal and professional networks, give her a distinct advantage in attracting great fresh listings for the rest of us to sell.
